There are three primary religions accepted and practiced openly within Matora. These are the Paragons of the Three Divinities, The Eastern Traditions, and the Faith of the First Dawn.

Paragons of the Three Divinities (The Church of the Divinities, The Divinities, The Paragons, the Paragon States) is the oldest of these faith, having its roots nearly 1400 years ago. The primary calendar in the region relates to Prophet of this faith and his death as a Messiah by the old empire, Savon.

Eastern Traditions (The Traditions, the Eastern Faith) is a similar faith to the Paragons, but is a distinct schism of early teachings and doctrine. Their primary focus is on the Sect of Communion. Eastern Tradition is a male guided faith, no females are accepted among their clergy and lay leaders.

The Faith of the First Dawn comes from the distant east and south. Under the tutelage of the Second Prophet, this faith accepts the teachings of the First Prophet, but this work is ratified by the teachings of its Prophet.

A schism of the Paragons is practiced by the Divine Empire. This faith accepts the three paragons, but places Exoneration above all else with Communion and Devotion as subordinate to the Exoneration of the Paragons. As tenants of this Sect, the Divine Empire has been affirmed by its Reverend Patre. The Emperor is the most Divine figure by birthright and bloodline, and the faith and crown are passed on through male lineage.

Paragons of the Three Divinities

Oldest current religion: Paragons of the Three Divinities.

Three Sects, one per Paragon.

Sect of the Communion

Represents the communion between mortals and the Paragons. The priests and keepers of doctrine of the faith. They are the organized structure of the church. These are male only members of the faith, chosen/trained for their role. The Sect of the Communion is presided over by Reverend Patre Piero Dolfin.

Sect of the Devotion

These are spiritual lay leaders of the faith that work closely with the faithful. They represent a personal spiritualism and a connection with the Paragons. They include healers, fasters, personal prayer, guidance and devotion to the faith. These are female only members of the faith. The Sect of the Devotion is presided over by Reverend Matre Nezetta Damiani.

Sect of the Exoneration

This sect oversees absolution of sin and repentance. They take a far more personal approach between people and faith, seeing it as their duty to seek out absolution of sin and to enforce repentance. Males and females constitute the hierarchy of this sect of the faith. Most Reverend Matre Ippolita della Garzone presides over the Sect of Exoneration and is currently chief among the Reverends of the Paragons of the Three Divinities.

Each Sect is over seen by a Reverend Matre or Patre, depending on sect. Among these three one generally is accepted as Most Reverend and is the true leader of the faith, or the closest to the Divinities while the three work in unison as a triumvirate to govern the church of the Divinities, known as the Paragon State.

Beneath the Reverends are the Curates. A Curate is assigned per the Reverends to any given state of faithful parsonages representing a Centum, a hundred parsonages in a given region. While parsonages may hold a Centum with fewer numbers of Paragon holdings in more dispersed areas, the Curate of such a Centum holds less rights of vote within the Covenant of Curates. The Covenant meets twice annually to address matters of the Paragon State under direction of the Triumvirate.

Parsonage: a group of faithful under one chapel/church, lead by a Parson. It is common to call the Parson by the title of Matre or Patre depending on gender.

Chantry: Initially private parsonages established by lords and kings, now reserved for quiet adoration of the founding the 12 Adherents of the Faith. Those dwelling here serve a life of devotion to the Paragons of the Three Divinities. Led by a Chantor or Chantress, the members are known as postulants.

Chapter: An order of warriors of the faith, usually assigned in relation to a Chantry or Parsonage, to protect the faithful. Commonly filled with Cavalieri and Knights.

Devout: A deceased member of the faith recognized for being leaders and, ofttimes, martyrs of the faith.

In Matora

Matoran Centum: led by a Curate designated by the Reverends in Savo, the Curate is generally a member of one of the great houses of Matora.

Chapter Conservori: A branch of warriors that arose out of the teachings of Betula the Adherent. There is a chapter house in Matora for this Chapter. The Conservori form as a group of postulants work in Crea in 1190 to aid the wounded and fallen, protecting the innocent as the battles rage to claim the city for the Divine Kingdom.

Paregorio Chantry: Established early in the history of Matora, the Chantry took the name after Paregorio the Devout, once the Reverends of Savo ordained him as a Devout. He lived in Matora prior to the Kingdom of Saule, died in his faith to the Paragon States and in service to the Reverends even as the Divine Empire spread.

Divine Empire

Following the Schism of Savon and the Eastern Empire in the 5th Century, the peninsula became unstable with increasing raids from clan and tribes of the north. This including the sacking of Savon no less than three times. Between the first and second sack of Savo, between 455 and 476, the Reverends for a time resided in Landro. Following a time of wandering Reverends for nearly four centuries, a Reverend is nominated and elected by Curates in the Kingdom of Edrines.

This represents a schism at the time with the Reverends of the Paragons residing in the city of Sauroux at this time.

The Reverend of Edrines arose from the Sect of Exoneration. Reverend Oderic of the Exoneration and the Forza Chantor is appointed by Curates and anointed by King Adalric of Edriens. Chapter Forza is a subset of Chapters of the Exoneration in that they come to terms with the concept that the Exoneration is the most holy of the Paragons. The Prophet Noam died for sin and salvation and thus it is humankind's lot in life to repent for their salvation. In turn a holy unison is entered, ordaining Adalric the Western Emperor in the tradition of the Savon Empire. This marks the start of the Divine Empire.

The chief of all religious persons in this division of the Paragons of the Three Divinities is the Reverend Chantor. In all other regards, the hierarchy is similar to that of the Paragons of the Three Divinities. There is only one Reverend Matre/Patre, and they belong to the Sect of the Exoneration. The other Sects have a Holy Matre/Patre (Devotion/Communion respectively) that are subordinate to the Reverend Chantor.

Faith of the First Dawn

In southern districts of the Eastern Empire in the year 520, came the Prophet BLANK NAME. Sometimes called the Second Prophet in the tradition of Noam, the First Prophet. Much as Noam offered new covenant between humankind and the Divinities, so too did the Prophet BLANK NAME.

The words of the Second Prophet are brought together in their literature along with teachings of the Sect of Devotion. All religious leaders are female. There is but one major group of knights in this faith, both loyal to the faithful as well as devout to the Emperor of Kataro. In the time of Selzyid the Glorious, the practice of keeping a strong harem for the Emperor was highly practiced. Realizing the defiance in early training of some of the slave girls from the lands to the distant north, Emperor Selzyid choose to turn this strong spirit instead to use rather than in trying to remove it. This is when the Sisters of Concordance first began.
